Winemaker (and one time wine professor) Brian Freeman talks to compere Jillian Upton of The Wine Show Australia about Italian grape varieties, their attractions and impact in the NSW Hilltops Region…

FREEMAN Vineyards has been a regular stallholder at Carriageworks Farmers Market since its inception in February 2007. It’s been our Sydney Cellar Door for 15 years and we have made countless friends, even selling bottles for breakfast! But the time has come…after a rather challenging vintage…to pull down the banner on Saturday mornings. We will miss the chats, meeting new babies (and seeing them grow), admiring new pups, swapping restaurant recommendations, recipes and debating hot community topics. We will miss the Carriageworks family a lot.

So we look forward to seeing you at the Cellar Door soon. Open by appointment 7 days. Email: sales@freemanvineyards.com.au

The FREEMAN portfolio is available from several independent Sydney wine stores.

At FREEMAN Vineyards we specialise in crafting wines from Italian origin varieties. Our intimate rustic Cellar Door is  open by appointment to wine explorers keen to learn more about Italian style wines – think Prosecco, Pinot Grigio, Sangiovese, Nebbiolo to name a few in our prestige portfolio…

Our free Tastings are usually hosted by winemaker Brian Freeman, an ex-wine professor who is passionate about Italian style wines.  The tasting session takes about an hour.

The team at The Real Review have a canny little algorithm to calculate the year’s Best Value wines. It plots quality assessment against price. In the case of FREEMAN Rondo Rosé 2020 that means a 95 POINT RATING and RRP $20 which pops this hugely good value pink drop at No 3 BEST VALUE AUSSIE ROSÉ  in the rankings…

It is made from the unusual Italian origin variety Rondinella, that creates a delicious spicy wine ideal for summer sipping.

REAL REVIEW RATES FREEMAN NEBBIOLO 2016 IN AUSTRALIA’S TOP FIVE

FREEMAN doesnt make a habit of entering wine shows – that said, it’s pleasing to garner recognition for wines in the portfolio.

The Real Review run by wine writer Huon Hooke has rated the new release FREEMAN Nebbiolo 2016 a hefty 92 POINTS that pops it into Number 4 on his list of Top Aussie Nebbiolos.

‘Medium to full red colour with a trace of purple. The bouquet is earthy, meaty and forward, soft and mellowing, with a twist of the peppercorn grinder. The palate is medium-bodied and savoury, with a light kick of firm tannin at the end. A suggestion of raspberry jam and a sweet fruit core. Decent length. A Very smart nebb that already drinks well.’
