Freeman Shiraz 2022 Bottle Shot

Shiraz

NSW Hilltops has built its reputation on two classic varieties – shiraz and cabernet sauvignon – both grown on the FREEMAN Altura Vineyard.

TASTING NOTES
FREEMAN Shiraz 2022 displays classic red berry, peppery cool climate aromas merged with spicy oak-induced notes leading to an elegant savoury, full and mellow palate that features both varietal purity and elegance, a fine tannin fame and lingering close.

WINEMAKING
The Altura Vineyard encompasses a block of over 50-year-old shiraz vines, showing that vine maturity contributes to exceptional intensity and balance when blended with more recent plantings. Selected parcels are chosen to craft this complete and complex shiraz hallmarked by its Hilltops origins.

The 2022 season started with a cool spring and later the warm dry autumn nurtured fully ripe flavour-packed grapes picked in late March.

TASTING NOTES
An intense blackberry coloured savoury wine distinguished by light pepper and spice aromas and distinctive dark cherry fruit. A complex wine that hovers enticingly between power and restraint while featuring a refined tannin frame and persistence.  Enjoy with a seared Wagyu steak.

The 2018 vintage season was pretty well by the book. Good rain when needed in November and December, then dry with moderate heat ideal for long, slow steady ripening. Picked a bit later than average allowing the fully ripe grapes to show intense flavour and balance.
